Over the period of years, Chandigarh is emerging as a central hub for cultural and art related activities. The Department of Cultural Affairs has the privilege of having “Tagore Theatre”, which has witnessed the performances of many renowned national and international Artists. The Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration supports various cultural activities in the Union Territory of Chandigarh by organizing various cultural events / programmes from time to time and by granting sponsorships to Registered Cultural Groups / Societies consisting of amateur artists, who have given great fillip to the cultural life of Chandigarh. The three Akademies of Department of Culture Affairs, Chandigarh Administration i.e. Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi and Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi have played a prominent role in promoting art and artists in the city beautiful.

HOBBY CLASSES IN VARIOUS GOVT. SCHOOLS OF U.T. CHANDIGARH
A step further, for the promotion of art and culture at the grass root level, the Department has engaged Resource Persons who are imparting training in instrumental music and classical dance to the students of 35 Govt. Schools of Union Territory, Chandigarh. The main objective of these workshops to motivate and encourage the students to learn classical music and dance and also to persue career in the field of Classical Arts.

SPONSORSHIPS TO REGISTERED GROUPS / SOCITIES
There are over a 100 local cultural groups in Chandigarh, the majority of them consisting of amateur artistes, who have given a great fillip to the cultural life of Chandigarh. In order to encourage them, the department of Cultural Affairs sponsors their event and provides financial assistance for promotion art and culture,

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS, MINISTRY OF EXERNAL AFFAIRS, 1210, SECTOR 34, CHANDIGARH
To bring foreign culture at Chandigarh and to implement the cultural exchangeprogramme on behalf of the Government of India, the Department of Cultural Affairs hassigned the Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Sector 34, Chandigarh for organizing/conducting/hosting of various cultural and arts related events at international level and also planning to hold first international Music and Dance Festival in Chandigarh.

NAAD VATIAK-CULTURE IN PARKS
To boost the enthusiasm of local budding artists, the department of Cultural Affairs organizes Naad Vatika-a musical Concert on every Saturday in Rose Garden,Sector 16, Chandigarh, wherein local artists in the field of classical music present different forms of classical instrumental music/vocal. The main aim of the department is to motivate local artists by giving chance to perform in the said event and to promote classical music/shastriya sangeet amongst the youngster of city beautiful.
